The AgriTT Programme is an initiative by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), in collaboration with the Chinese government and countries in Africa. The programme sits under the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the UK and Chinese Governments in 2011, which established a new partnership between China and the UK to work together to achieve shared development objectives in lower income countries. The AgriTT programme was designed to facilitate the sharing of successful experience in agricultural development, especially from China, with other developing countries in order to improve agricultural productivity and food security of poor people.
This programme has aimed to improve food security in low-income countries (LICs) through accelerated technology transfer and knowledge sharing. It aims to provide a platform to extend technologies tailored to the need and conditions of LICs, and support joint research to build evidence and find solutions to food security issues. AgriTT takes an integrated approach, not only looking at production technologies, but also various aspects of the food value chain that also includes processing, distribution and marketing.
AgriTT started in August 2012 and was designed to end on 31 March 2016 but has subsequently been given a no-cost extension to 31st March 2017. The Business Case for the Programme calls for two independent reviews during the lifetime of the Programme, one for mid-term and another towards the end of the Programme. This plan is for the Project Completion Review.
