The China-Nigeria cassava industry development symposium was successfully held in Haikou-Nanning-Beijing from Aug 25th to Sep 1st in 2007.  

This meeting organized by Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS), International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), National Root Crops Research Institute of Nigeria (NRCRI), also supported by following partners: Chinese Academy of Sciences Beijing Genomics Institute and Shanghai Plant Physiology & Ecology Institute, The Institute of Guangxi Sub-tropical Crops Research, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation and NEPAD Pan Africa Cassava Initiative, participants in the meeting totally about 50 persons, including top scientists (geneticists, breeders and agronomists), farmers, processing technology suppliers and processing factory owners, also including potential investors, that almost covered whole cassava industrialization chain. 

The meeting was divided into two parts: communication and visiting. There were nine important reports presented by scholars on the similar and five fruitful symposiums. All participants visited Cassava breeding station of CATAS and related institutes, Guangxi Wuming Cassava plantation station, Guangxi Mingyang Biochemical Science and Technology. Inc,

Based on well understanding of mutual status on cassava varieties, planting technology and bio-ethanol processing, both sides had virtual discussion and put forward to build up a joint center of cassava industry development under the Chinese government aid Africa Project, and set up a framework on technology transferring, personnel training, cooperative researching and investment, etc. Both parties have reached three cooperative memorandums on constructing cassava raw material stations. 

This meeting is the prelude of omnidirectional collaboration on cassava industrialization between two governments and private investors.
